Die Kunst von Anija Seedler wandert zwischen Theatralem und Illustrativem und nimmt dabei alle möglichen Zwischenformen an. Wunderbare Bücher und zuletzt auch eine „Wind Opera“ gehören zu ihrem Schaffen. Mit großer Virtuosität setzt Seedler Spontaneität und Zufall präzise ein. Ihr Raum in der Ausstellung führt uns dabei zwei Pole ihrer Bildkunst vor Augen. Mit wenigen Strichen erweckt die Künstlerin in den neun gerahmten Tuschezeichnungen ein von Mythen und Volkssagen inspiriertes Personal aus Misch- und Zwitterwesen zum Leben. Dem stehen dichte Tuscheaquarelle auf Rohleinen gegenüber, in denen das Auge erst nach einigem Hinsehen und mit Hilfe der Titel statt informeller Farbdichte die Bildfiguren zu lesen lernt. In der Andeutung erwächst die erzählerische Kraft von Seedlers Figuren, die in uns paradiesische Fantasien entfachen können.
The art of Anija Seedler moves between the theatrical and the illustrative, taking on all manner of intermediate forms. Wonderful books and, most recently, a “Wind Opera” are among her creations. With great virtuosity, Seedler employs spontaneity and chance with precise intention. Her space in the exhibition presents two poles of her pictorial practice. With just a few strokes, the artist brings to life a cast of hybrid and intersex beings in nine framed ink drawings—figures inspired by myths and folk tales. Opposite them are dense ink-and-watercolor works on raw linen, in which the viewer needs time—and the guidance of the titles—to discern the pictorial figures within what first appears to be an informal field of color. It is in suggestion that the narrative force of Seedler’s figures emerges, capable of igniting paradisiacal imaginings within us.
