Der vorliegende Band ist Künstlerbuch und Ausstellungskatalog zugleich. Er wurde vom Freundeskreis Schloss Wildenfels zur feierlichen Präsentation der ersten restaurierten Bahn der wertvollen Seidentapeten im Chinesischen Kabinett in Schloss Wildenfels im Landkreis Zwickau im Rahmen der Ausstellung “Chinoiserien und Phantasmagorien“ herausgegeben. Bei der Wildenfelser Tapete handelt es sich um eine exklusive chinoise Applikationsstickerei, die etwa zwischen 1715 und 1720 entstand und ein absolutes Glanzstück des Wildenfelser Schlossinterieurs darstellt. Sie wurde über mehrere Jahre aufwändig restauriert und die Präsentation mit einer Ausstellung der dialogischen Arbeiten von Anija Seedler gefeiert. Der Begriff Chinoiserie bezeichnet einen Kunststil des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts in Europa, der sich durch alles Asiatische inspirieren ließ. Die international renommierte Leipziger Künstlerin Anija Seedler — wunderbare Zeichnerin phantasmagorischer Realitäten — liebt die Arbeit mit Ungewissheiten, die Konzentration auf Hybrides, Metamorphosen und Transitionen. Sie arbeitet an den Schnittstellen visueller und szenischer Kunst und ließ sich durch die Seidentapeten zu neuen Arbeiten inspirieren bzw. stellte ausgewählte eigene Arbeiten den Seidentapeten in drei Werkserien gegenüber. Ihre Zeichnungen lassen den Betrachter in eine herrliche farbenfrohe Welt moderner Metamorphosen und Grotesken eintauchen und in diesem Gegenüber von Mythologie und Stofflichkeit, Belebt und Unbelebt, Alt und Neu, Hier und Jetzt entsteht eine neue inspirierende Welt: Wir erleben ein Fest barocker Kunst, der Körperformen, Mischwesen und Pflanzen. Die Einzigartigkeit dieses dialogischen Projektes spiegelt sich im vorliegenden Buch exzellent wider. Im Original arbeitet Seedler mit Tusche und Pigment auf geschöpftem Papier oder Tusche und Pigment auf ungrundiertem Leinen: „Chinoiserien“ wurde in hoher Qualität auf Gardapat Kiara-Papier gedruckt und mit offener Bindung im Hardcover gebunden. Die Texte sind aus der Schrift Schola gesetzt. Im Format von 18,5 x 12 cm, auf 96 Seiten und mit 90 Illustrationen verströmt der kleine Band die Asien-Exotik des 18. Jahrhunderts sowie die Exklusivität des modernen künstlerischen Buchdrucks.

This volume is both an artist’s book and an exhibition catalog. It was published by the Freundeskreis Schloss Wildenfels on the occasion of the ceremonial presentation of the first restored run of the valuable silk wallpaper in the Chinese Cabinet at Schloss Wildenfels in the district of Zwickau as part of the exhibition “Chinoiseries and Phantasmagorias”. The Wildenfels wallpaper is an exclusive chinoise appliqué embroidery, which was created between 1715 and 1720 and is an absolute highlight of the Wildenfels castle interior. It was painstakingly restored over several years and its presentation was celebrated with an exhibition of Anija Seedler’s dialogical works. The term chinoiserie refers to an artistic style of the 17th and 18th centuries in Europe that was inspired by everything Asian. The internationally renowned Leipzig-based artist Anija Seedler – a wonderful draughtswoman of phantasmagorical realities – loves working with uncertainties, focusing on hybrids, metamorphoses and transitions. She works at the intersection of visual and scenic art and was inspired by the silk wallpapers to create new works and juxtaposed selected works of her own with the silk wallpapers in three series of works. Her drawings immerse the viewer in a wonderfully colorful world of modern metamorphoses and grotesques, and in this juxtaposition of mythology and materiality, animate and inanimate, old and new, here and now, a new inspiring world emerges: we experience a celebration of baroque art, body forms, hybrid creatures and plants. The uniqueness of this dialogical project is excellently reflected in this book. In the original, Seedler works with ink and pigment on scooped paper or ink and pigment on unprimed linen: “Chinoiserien” was printed in high quality on Gardapat Kiara paper and bound with an open binding in hardcover. The texts are set from the Schola font. With a format of 18.5 x 12 cm, 96 pages and 90 illustrations, this small volume exudes the exoticism of 18th century Asia and the exclusivity of modern artistic book printing.

Anija Seedler’s background in textiles and the theatre as well as her love of chinoiseries and cabinets of curiosities can be strongly felt both in the materiality of her drawings and in their thematic references. She uses Indian ink and pigment on hand-made paper and Indian ink, pigment on untreated canvas. The small works measure 18 x 24 cm and the large works up to 180 x 240 cm.
