Calling a halt in the ceaselessly flowing maelstrom of images and facts that is our
biotope. Arresting, preserving, unpicking, gathering in, minimizing, re-ordering.
My paintings and drawings are remnants and abortments of past and recurrent
pictorial worlds. They are not so much film, theatre, actual images, but rather the
traces of these. Showing what could already be seen. Repeating what was
overlooked. Veiling what the veiling process can render more powerfully visible.
They arise from a conceptually archival impulse and the wish, through drawing,
to appropriate and re-interpret. White void, teeming detail, intricate line, black
curtain. Theatrical sequences in retarded narration. Unstable, umbrageous,
fragile. Precarious transitional instants. Sweeping vistas. Amorphous figures
that, charged with impulses to effect cinematic movements, are caught between
being and becoming.
